Polk County, Florida-- Bartow, Florida – How does one go about getting rid of an old television or computer? Or what about a video camera, and the dead batteries that go along with it?

If you're looking for a place to dump your electronic or hazardous waste for free, you'll want to take advantage of the upcoming collection event hosted by Polk County's Waste Resource Management Division.

On April 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Polk residents can dispose of any of the following items in the Lakeland Center's south parking lot, 701 West Lime Street:

Young Marine killed in mortar accident laid to rest

WINTER HAVEN, Florida -- A 20-year-old Marine from Polk City who died after a training accident last month was laid to rest on Saturday.

Lance Cpl. David Fenn was one of seven young Marines who was killed when a 60 mm mortar exploded on March 18 during a live fire training exercise in Nevada.

"I just can't believe it. All the people here, all the flags, all the motorcycles," Fenn's great uncle, John Elliott, said about the funeral service in Winter Haven. "This is more than I could ever hope to see."

Local student accepted into 3 of nation's top military institutions

Auburndale, Florida -- A Polk County student is trying to decide which of the nation's top military institutions to attend next year.

Polk County Schools says Kelsey Ashbrook, of Auburndale High School, has been accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado and the United States Naval Academy located in Maryland.

Cops: Man with 'violent past', uses victim's bank card

Winter Haven, Florida-- Local police need the public's help in finding a man who they say has a violent past, and recently stole and used a victim's bank card.

According to Winter Haven PD, 41-year-old Leonard Steelman, Jr. used the card at a local Walgreens sometime between April 3 and April 4. 

His criminal history is extensive, and violent, reports indicating previous charges of attempted first degree murder, rape robbery, burglary and grand theft. 

Former employee charged with fraud and grand theft

Lake Wales, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's Office have arrested a woman for defrauding her employer and laundering over $100,000.

On Thursday, April 4, detectives arrested Marcy Scalise charging her with fraud, grand theft and money laundering.  

Detectives learned over the course of two years, Scalise had repeatedly defrauded her employer, Orange Industrial Services, located in Davenport.
