McKean Street closure starts Tuesday

Auburndale, Fla. -- Polk County has announced McKean Street, in Auburndale, will be closed intermittently from Recker Highway (CR 655), which is located .29 mile south of Hwy 92, to W Derby Avenue (CR 544A) for .25 mile.

The closure is required to install citrus storage tanks at Cutrale Citrus juice plant, and will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The McKean Street project should be completed and the road reopened by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013. During the closure, please avoid this area.

Feed the Children and Naehcy give backpacks and supplies to homeless students

Polk County, Fla. -- On Feb. 21, Feed The Children will provide backpacks and supplies to Pasco County Public Schools and Polk County Schools.

A shipment of 960 backpacks will be delivered to the Distribution Warehouse for Pasco County, 7301 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. in Land O’ Lakes at 8 a.m. A second shipment of 960 backpacks will be delivered to the Jim Miles Professional Building in Lakeland, 5204 U.S. Hwy. 98 South at approximately 11 a.m.

The backpacks will be distributed at a later date to students experiencing homelessness in 15 regional counties.

Bus service ceases on President's Day

Polk County, Fla. -- In observance of the President’s Day Holiday, bus service on the Winter Haven Area Transit, Citrus Connection and Polk County Transit Services routes will not be operating Monday, Feb. 20.

Service will resume normal operations on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Mom who allegedly killed baby found at TIA

Lake Wales, Florida -- A Polk County Woman who suffers from Postpartum Depression is in custody tonight accused of killing her 1-year old son.

Officials say 32-year-old Neha Patel disappeared with her son Thursday morning and was reported missing later in the day. However, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says Patel did show up briefly at her South Lakeland home early Friday confessing to her husband that she had killed the couple's son.

Man sends 16-year-old explicit photo

Winter Haven, FL -- Winter Haven Police are asking for the public's help finding the man who sent a 16-year-old an explicit photo of himself through text message.

According to police, the victim contacted them after they received the photo from 26-year-old Camillo Giachino Demaria, of Lake Wales.
