Grand opening of Ernie Caldwell Boulevard to include inaugural 5K Race

Davenport, FL -- Come out to the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Ernie Caldwell Boulevard and overpass on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at Posner Park near Interstate 4 and US Highway 27 in northeast Polk County.

The almost 4-mile long Ernie Caldwell Boulevard connects Posner Park, FDC Grove Road and Home Run Boulevard (via new Heller Brothers Boulevard) to US Highway 27 South. It travels east to link US Highway 27 and Posner Park to County Road 54 (Ronald Reagan Parkway) by way of the recently opened 1.4-mile long Pine Tree Trail.

Polk County, FL -- The Office of Magnet, Choice and Charter Schools had announced it is implementing a revised student assignment plan due to changes to the 2007 Supreme Court ruling that addresses the use of race as a factor in individual assignment determinations for magnet or choice schools.

Sinkhole opens up at I-4 rest stop

Polk City, Florida -- A sinkhole has opened up at a rest stop along Interstate 4 in Polk County.

The Florida Highway Patrol has closed the westbound rest area at Mile Marker 46, near Fantasy of Flight.

Those at the scene tell 10 News the sinkhole is 40 feet and two cars fell in. Neither car was occupied at the time, and no one is injured.

On Dec. 13, negotiating teams for the Polk County School District and the Polk Education Association signed off on a tentative salary agreement for the current 2011-2012 School Year.  This agreement was but one of many positive agreements that were reached during the negotiation process for this year’s contract.

LEGOLAND Florida sells out for first time

Winter Haven, Fl. - Florida's newest theme park sold out for the first time in its two month history Wednesday in what is typically one of the busiest weeks of the year for Florida theme parks.

Guests expecting a day of fun at LEGOLAND Florida were turned away beginning around noon as the Winter Haven park reached full capacity.

Those who made it inside say there were long lines which averaged between an hour and 90 minutes.

Suspects rob liquor store

Davenport, FL -- Detectives are searching for two men who robbed a local liquor store on Christmas Eve.

According to the sheriff's office, around 9:20 p.m. on Dec. 24, one man held the door open of the Hollywood Liquor store, at 114 Polo Park Blvd., while the other, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, went behind the counter and pointed it at the clerk demanding money.
