Lake Wales stings Bartow 40-0

Bartow, Fla. - The Bartow Yellow Jackets (3-7) were looking to end the season on a positive note, while the Lake Wales Highlanders (9-1), with a home postseason game next Friday night, were looking for a win without suffering any injuries.

Lake Wales got on the board early in the first quarter when Jonte' Sergeant scored on a 5-yard run.

The Highlanders, leading 13-0 at the half, opened things up a bit, when Ladaran Wilson returned a punt 70 yards for a score.

Lake Wales goes on for the 40-0 win.

When your school is on a roll for receiving grants, you must be doing something right. That’s exactly what is happening at Eagle Lake Elementary in Polk County.

For the eighth year in a row, Eagle Lake has received the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFMD) Splash! mini grant. The $3,000 award was announced by Eagle Lake teachers Robin Rogers and Kathi Decker.

Employee calls in fake bomb threat to sister store

Winter Haven, FL -- A Family Dollar Store employee was arrested Tuesday for calling in a fake bomb threat to another store in a nearby city.

According to police, 23-year-old Shanbrea Nysha Swift, of Haines City, called the Family Dollar Store in Winter Haven around 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 14 and said multiple times there was a bomb in the building before hanging up.

The store employee dialed *69 and recognized the number as the one from the Family Dollar Store in Haines City.
