Bicycle and ATV collide in fatal crash

Winter Haven, Florida -- Polk County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a crash between an ATV and a bicycle that killed one person and critically injured three other people. 

Around 10:20 p.m. on May 11, a witness reported that a black ATV was traveling on Bomber road at a high rate of speed. According to the witness, the driver did not have any lights on. Then, the witness saw the ATV's brake lights activate just as it appeared to swerve and take evasive actions.

Recent rains cause Polk to lift burn ban

Polk County, Florida - Recent rains have reduced the threat of wildfires in Polk County prompting the Fire Chief to repeal Polk's burn ban as of Friday, May 10.

Citizens are now allowed to burn trash, yard debris, campfires, bonfires, and construction debris, though per state law, the use of fireworks remains prohibited.

It is possible a burn ban could be reinstated if there is a severe lack of rain and/or extremely dry conditions develop in Polk between now and the start of the normal summer rainy season.

Cancer fighter to get special honor from Tampa Bay Rays

Winter Haven, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Rays are recognizing a Polk County cancer survivor and fighter as the team's honorary bat girl at this Sunday's game.

She raised money and pushed to find a cure for breast cancer -- long before she learned she'd have to fight the disease herself.

Now Winter Haven's Cauney Bamberg will be celebrated for her work by getting time in the spotlight with the Tampa Bay Rays. Bamberg has been chosen as the team's honorary bat girl.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Cops: Polk bus driver stages fight between 2 students

Polk County, Florida -- A Polk County school bus driver has been arrested for allegedly forcing two students to fight outside her home Thursday.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says 29-year-old Patrice Sanders of Lakeland drove a busload of middle and high school students to her house and staged a fight between two of them in her front yard.

Family of man killed by Richard Cruz speaks out

St. Petersburg, FL -- The family of a man killed by Richard Delgado Cruz says the justice system failed, adding the 33-year-old should never have been a free man.

Cruz and his brother 29-year-old Danny Delgado Cruz were arrested this week in connection with a brutal Polk County home invasion and rape.

"I can't believe that the courts would even allow this guy to walk the streets again," Jose Segui told 10 News on Friday.

Victim unharmed when gun misfires, suspect arrested

Winter Haven, Florida-- Winter Haven Police officials say after two weeks of searching, they have finally found and arrested an "armed and extremely dangerous" suspect- wanted for trying to shoot a victim in the head. 

10 News told you about the April 28th incident, when 27-year-old Dorale Sermons reportedly held a gun to a victim's head in front of a large crowd at the Spring Lake Plaza.
