Duke TIP names Polk middle schoolers among best in nation

Polk County, Florida-- Polk County middle school students have been recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program, and are now being invited to take the incredibly intimidating SAT and ACT tests-- typically intended for high schoolers preping for college!

Polk County Public School officials sent out a detailed release about the honor, and even included a list of all qualifying middle schoolers:

Polk County, Florida-- The Davenport School of the Arts invites the public to attend its Sixth Annual All-County Gala Concert on Saturday, April 6.

Organizers say the event, "An Evening of Dance in Polk County", will begin at 7 p.m. in the school's Howe's Theatre, l, 4751 N CR 547, Davenport, FL 33837.

Lake Wales, Florida -- Head out to Art-B-Cue to be wowed by excellent food and impressive art, along with live music, to kick off the Lake Wales Art Show.

The free event on Friday, March 22nd will spotlight local bands and food, serving as the start of the 42nd Citizens Bank and Trust Lake Wales Art Show.

Make sure you bring along picnic supplies and chairs for the event, which is presented by Citrosuco and Progress Energy.

For $10, you can get some tasty barbecue from Doug Wise or an available vegetarian option from Ridge Catering Co.

Lake Wales, Florida -- Folks from Bartow are invited to enjoy "Live at the Gardens" featuring Daniel Strange Piano this weekend at nearby Bok Tower Gardens.

Fresh off the release of his new album "Life As I Hear It," Strange, a multi-genre pianist, is returning to Bok Tower Gardens to perform a solo piano concert.

You can watch him compose and arrange versions of old nostalgic favorites to modern progressive jazz.

It's taking place at the at Pinewood Estate on March 10, at 5-7 p.m.

Bok Tower soothes with moonlight carillon concerts

Lake Wales, Florida -- One of North America's most complex and enchanting musical instruments will fill the night air with music twice in March.

The carillon atop the "Singing Tower" at Bok Tower Gardens is made up of 60 bells. The smallest weighs 16 pounds and the largest is nearly 12 tons.

Using those bells, a musician called a carillonneur will play a stunning hour-long concert in the light of the full moon.

Visitors can relax in the world-famous garden and take in the sights and sounds for only $5 per person. Members get in free.

Polk County Utilities Division Water Conservation Art Contest

Polk Co., FL-- Polk County Utilities Division announced their 2013 Water Conservation Art Contest for all Polk County students enrolled in both publi,c and private schools, in grades K-12.

Competitors are encouraged to create a poster depicting a water conservation idea.

Rosette ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third place in each of the thirteen grade categories. All others receive participation ribbons. The blue ribbon winner in each category will be featured in the 2013 Water Conservation Calendar.
