Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) was honored as being a Best Place to Work for the eighth year in a row by Polk Works at their 2012 Annual Meeting and Best Places to Work Awards, held at Sykes Hall in the Lakeland Center on Aug. 23.

Polk County, Florida-- Just in time for the beginning of the school year, Jaylen Arnold, a Polk county 12-year-old, teams up with local law enforcement to take on bullying.

Jaylen knows first-hand the sting of bullying. Suffering the effects of Tourette Syndrome and Autism, Jaylen has dealt with bullying and decided to turn it into a positive back in 2009. She set out on a mission to educate potential bullies of the hurt they cause others by starting "Jaylens Challenge."

Agape food bank to benefit from Macy's event

Bartow, Florida -- A local food bank stands to benefit from a a national effort at Macy's stores this week.

Macy's is doing "Shop for a Cause" on August 25 and all proceeds from discount cards purchased will go to the Agape Food Bank for the entire day.

The food bank, in conjunction with Macy's stores nationwide, is helping by working with shoppers who purchase a $5.00 shopping pass.

Bartow, Florida -- Polk County Transit Services was awarded two honors this week from the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged for its consistent commitment to providing excellent services to Polk County residents and visitors. 

Transportation Disadvantaged Commissioner Steven Holmes presented transit driver Ralph Gagnier with the Driver of the Year award in front of a crowd of 300 people at the annual awards banquet at the Renaissance Hotel in Orlando.

Sheriff Grady Judd elected VP of Florida Sheriff's Association

Polk County, Florida-- On Tuesday morning, July 31, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd was elected to serve as the 2012-2013 Florida Sheriff’s Association Vice President. 

Officials say he was installed Tuesday night during the closing ceremony of the FSA Annual Conference, held in Kissimmee, Florida.  Sheriff Judd will hold the FSA Vice President position for one year.

Nearly 50 students achieve perfect FCAT 2.0 scores

Polk County, Florida-- Despite reports of poor performance throughout the state on the FCAT writing assessment, Polk County proudly announces that nearly 50 students scored perfectly on both the reading, and math assessments. 

According to a release from Polk County Public Schools, 47 third - eighth graders achieved perfect ranks on the reading and math portions of FCAT 2.0.
