Unsolved murder case solved after nurse murdered

Bartow, Florida -- Friday morning was an emotional time for the family of Tommy Eugene Smith of Bartow. Smith was 37 years old and a nursing supervisor at Lakeland Regional Medical Center when his body was found during the early evening hours of Oct. 11, 1996.

Tommy's siblings, Ronnie Smith and Bonnie Mclin, attended a news conference and heard the gruesome details of Tommy's murder.

Ronnie said, "I feel like I been waiting a lifetime. I feel like a great weights' been lifted." Bonnie says, "It's a huge relief. It's been a long time coming."

Four arrested for soliciting lewd acts at park

Polk County, Florida -- Four men were arrested this week for soliciting lewd acts during an undercover investigation at a county park.

Man stabs patron outside bar during argument

Winter Haven, Florida -- A man turned himself in to police Friday after a witness identified him as the person who stabbed another patron outside a local bar Thursday night.

Winter Haven Police say Robert Gaskin, Jr. and James Jackson were at Hot Shots bar on 3rd St. SW when they reportedly got into an argument over the fact Jackson was with a woman that wasn't his girlfriend. The argument escalated into a fist fight and the two were kicked out of the bar.

Police search for hit and run driver, passenger

Winter Haven, Florida -- Winter Haven Police are searching for two men who ran from the scene of an accident involving injuries early Friday morning.

Police say around 12:48 a.m., Marilyn Black was driving a 2001 Cadillac sedan south on Lake Howard Dr., SW when a dark green and tan Ford Expedition crossed the center line and hit the front of Black's car.

Black, 52, and her passenger, 68-year-old Amos Robinson was taken to Winter Haven Hospital with minor injuries. 

Ex-associate pastor indicted on federal child porn charges

Lake Wales, Florida -- A federal grand jury has indicted a former associate youth minister on charges of producing and attempting to produce child porn.

Arnold Mathis was arrested in December 2011 after a man told Polk County Sheriff's detectives Mathis sexually battered him numerous times when he was 14 or 15 years old, while Mathis was a minister at a Winter Haven church. The victim came forward when he was 21 years old.

Jury selection begins in 2001 manslaughter case

Bartow, Florida -- Jury selection is underway in the case involving a Lake Wales woman who disappeared from a South Florida beach.

A little less than two years ago, Dion Kaseta was charged with second degree murder, but prosecutors reduced that charge to manslaughter.

The case involves Kimberly Mimmovich, of Lake Wales, who was last seen nearly 12 years ago.

Sheriff Judd calls out Congress to stop aid for felons

Winter Haven, Florida - After a busy three-week sweep all across the state of Florida, 43 sheriff's offices busted 11,875 wanted felons.

The investigation lasted from September 28th to October 22nd. The agencies involved included Polk, Hillsborough, Highlands, Hardee, Hernando and Osceola Counties, to name a few.

"Operation Felon Sweep" netted nearly a half million dollars in cash, along with hundreds of guns, pills and cocaine.

Pok County Sheriff Grady Judd called out members of Congress, issuing a challenge to them to stop federal aid to all felons.
