Polk County Hurricane Awareness Tour | Events
Lakeland, Florida-- Polk County Fire Rescue, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, City of Lakeland, Lakeland Lender Airport, and Polk County School Board will hold a Polk County Hurricane Awareness Tour on May 4 at Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland.
A panel of experts, made up of National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read, Polk County Emergency Management Director Pete McNally,National Weather Service Meteorologist In Charge Brian LaMarre, and National Weather Service Forecasters Tony Reynes will be there to advise attendees on Hurricane and disaster preparedness.
In addition, around 330 students from five Polk county schools will take part in experiments that show the eyewall vortex of a storm and how storm surge works.
Vendors will also display information on the topic.
