The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Polk County Chapter will be holding their 9th Annual Gourmet Gents event featuring the culinary skills of over 75 gentlemen in the county and surrounding areas like Orlando and Royal Palm Beach.

Winter Haven, Fla. -- Time for some spring cleaning! The Annual Citywide Spring Clean Up is just a few weeks away, so start gathering items to be discarded.

City residents can dispose of large bulk items such as furniture, appliances, metal, building materials and other junk items at no extra charge.

Be sure to place items to be discarded at the curb by 7 a.m. on the following dates:

LAKELAND, FL -- The Lakeland Raiders are counting down the days until the opening game against the Rome Rampage.  The organization has been receiving a great feedback from the community and from all the surrounding areas.

PCPS, RSVP, AmeriCorps Reads partner for MLK Day of Service Project

During the week of January 9-13, 2012, Polk County Public Schools, Polk County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Polk County AmeriCorps Reads joined in collaboration for the MLK Day of National Service.  Volunteers, coordinated by Polk County RSVP, read the book “Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Robin Hill School” by Margaret McNamara to Kindergarten students in six Title 1 Elementary Schools in Polk County.

Winter Haven, FL -- In celebration of February as Black History Month, the Friends of the Winter Haven Public Library invite you to a very special meet and greet and movie screening. Florida filmmaker, producer and writer Kristy Andersen will present her acclaimed biography of Zora Neale Hurston: Jump at the Sun.
