National Infant Immunization Week begins in Polk

Bartow, Florida -- The Florida Department of Health in Polk County recognizes the week of April 20-27, 2013, as National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW). 

National Infant Immunization Week is an annual observance promoting the benefits of immunization to improve the health of children two-years-old or younger. 

This year's theme is "Immunization: Power to Protect." 

Vaccines are among the most successful and cost-effective public health tools available for preventing disease and death.

Bartow, Florida- As Polk County works to improve overall health of residents, an annual snapshot suggests we still have a long way to go.

10 News reported on the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's release of the fourth annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps tool, and Polk Health reps have offered insight on how they plan to make improvements.

Bartow, Florida -- The fourth annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps tool was released today with rankings that serve as a snapshot of the health of individuals in counties across the state and nation.

Polk County ranked 30th in health outcomes compared to the other 67 county health departments in Florida.  Health outcomes measure the overall health of our county in terms of low birth rate, premature death rate, and other factors.

Polk County, Florida-- The official Polk County website highlights free, diabetes classes offered to all Polk residents. 

One class took place yesterday, but as pictured above, residents can still catch classes on March 18 and April 15.
