Purse snatcher caught in Winter Haven | News

Winter Haven, FL-- Police have arrested a man after he snatched a purse from a 76-year-old woman at a Dollar General earlier today. 

According to reports, it was around 12:30 when 26-year-old Von Nicholas Chandler approached the woman as she shopped with her daughter. He grabbed her purse from behind and fled the store northbound on Hwy 17. 

Just a short time later, officials located Chandler, arrested him and returned the victim's belongings.

Police charged Chandler with Robbery By Sudden Snatching, Theft From the Elderly and Violation of Probation.  He was transported to the Polk County Jail.

"Our officers did an outstanding job tracking this thug down," said Chief Gary Hester. "Due to the quick response time and diligent efforts on our officers, he can enjoy the inside of the Polk County Jail."
