Over 70 trailers stolen, sold in scrap metal scheme

Polk County, Florida-- Three men have been linked to over 70 citrus trailer thefts that occurred all over Polk County between 2010 and 2013. 

According to Polk County Sheriff's officials, brothers Ruben and Richard Ramirez, 39 and 31-years-old, worked alongside 60-year-old Donald Mosley to steal the trailers from various citrus packing houses, and then sell the metal to scrap dealers in Polk, Hillsborough and Hardee Counties.

Polk County, Florida-- Bartow, Florida – How does one go about getting rid of an old television or computer? Or what about a video camera, and the dead batteries that go along with it?

If you're looking for a place to dump your electronic or hazardous waste for free, you'll want to take advantage of the upcoming collection event hosted by Polk County's Waste Resource Management Division.

On April 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Polk residents can dispose of any of the following items in the Lakeland Center's south parking lot, 701 West Lime Street:

Young Marine killed in mortar accident laid to rest

WINTER HAVEN, Florida -- A 20-year-old Marine from Polk City who died after a training accident last month was laid to rest on Saturday.

Lance Cpl. David Fenn was one of seven young Marines who was killed when a 60 mm mortar exploded on March 18 during a live fire training exercise in Nevada.

"I just can't believe it. All the people here, all the flags, all the motorcycles," Fenn's great uncle, John Elliott, said about the funeral service in Winter Haven. "This is more than I could ever hope to see."
