Polk Public Schools seeking Hall of Fame nominations

Polk County, Florida-- Do you know someone who once attended a Polk County Public School, and has since made significant career contributions? If so, you're encourage to nominate them for induction into the Polk County Public Schools Hall of Fame!

According to the county, 103 members have been inducted since its inception in 1985, including last year's inductees, Sheriff Grady Judd, Dr. George E. Lees, Kathleen Parker and Michael Yon. 

Your nominee could be making a difference in a variety of professional areas including:

Chamber to host Candidate Forum Breakfast

Winter Haven, Florida -- On Wednesday March  6, the Winter Haven Chamber will host a forum for candidates for the vacant Winter Haven City Commission seat.

The forum will take place in the second floor Coleman Auditorium at 401 Avenue B NW. Candidates will make brief introductions and then answer questions from those in attendance.

The event will take place from 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m.

The Polk Senior Games kicks off Saturday, Feb. 23 and runs through March 11.

Wauchula, Florida-- Two local 11th graders were selected by Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO) to attend the national “Youth Tour to Washington DC” event, a weeklong tour with1,500 students from 46 states.

Shakera Latimore of Southeast High School in Bradenton, and Savannah Miller of Hardee High School in Wauchula, along with about 30 other students from Florida electric cooperatives, will enjoy the rich history of the nation’s Capitol firsthand.
