Tiger Bay Club changes guest speaker for upcoming meeting

Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County chapter of the Tiger Bay Club regretfully announced that Gerard Robinson will no longer speak at their monthly meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 18 at 11:30 a.m.

In Robinson's place, County Commissioner Ed Smith and challenger Tracy Garcia will speak in his place. Their race will be decided at the August 14 primary.

Bartow, FL -- The Polk County School Board will meet in a special meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the School Board Auditorium at the district administrative office, 1915 South Floral Ave., Bartow, FL, 33830.

The purpose of the meeting is reorganization of the school board and to conduct school board business.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m.

Polk County Public Schools upcoming meeting schedule announced

November 28 Special Budget Workshop

The Polk County School Board will conduct a Special Budget Workshop on Monday, Nov. 28 at Winter Haven High School, Media Center Small Conference Room, 600 6th Street SE, Winter Haven. The work session will begin at 9 a.m.

The purpose is to hear a presentation by Dr. Jim Hamilton to the School Board on how the state’s education budget is constructed, how school districts receive and manage funding, and what the outlook is so far in terms of the state education budget.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - St. Petersburg residents are electing four city councilors and will decide a handful of ballot issues on Election Day.

Among the charter amendments: whether to allow port leases of up to 25 years, whether to develop a master plan for the downtown's waterfront and whether to allow for property tax breaks for businesses that create jobs.

The city of Largo is also holding municipal elections Tuesday.

Meeting to discuss bridge replacement

Winter Haven, FL -- A public meeting is being held on Sept. 20, to discuss the final design plans for the 17th St. NW bridge replacement project. The bridge spans the canal between Lakes Cannon and Mirror.

The one-hour meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church, 700 N. Lake Howard Drive, Winter Haven.

City staff will be on hand to answer questions and share general and technical information about the project.
