Polk County, Florida -- Mary St. Denis, a science instructor at Winter Haven High, is a “Teacher at Sea” thanks to the C-IMAGE Gulf of Mexico Teacher at Sea Program. She recently qualified to participate in the projects’ 2013 expedition focused on zooplankton survey and deep ocean sediments.

Duke TIP names Polk middle schoolers among best in nation

Polk County, Florida-- Polk County middle school students have been recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program, and are now being invited to take the incredibly intimidating SAT and ACT tests-- typically intended for high schoolers preping for college!

Polk County Public School officials sent out a detailed release about the honor, and even included a list of all qualifying middle schoolers:

Polk County, Florida-- The 2013 graduation season is here, and as this year’s graduates prepare to take the next step towards future goals, family members, friends, and members of the community will want to share in their excitement.

Students who earned their diplomas will be honored at various graduation ceremonies in May and June, and Polk Public Schools reps have made it easy to see which schools' events are scheduled for when.

Polk County, Florida -- Support the creative work of over 5,000 students on April 30. 

The 21st Annual Polk County Public Schools' Video Awards Ceremony will celebrate the work of students from 88 schools. 

The videos will include documentaries, music videos, cool commercials, reporting stories and short films. 

The elementary celebration will be at 5 p.m. while the middle school and high school celebration will begin at 7 p.m. 

The event will be held at Victory Church in Lakeland. 

Classy attire is recommended.

Polk County, Florida-- The Davenport School of the Arts invites the public to attend its Sixth Annual All-County Gala Concert on Saturday, April 6.

Organizers say the event, "An Evening of Dance in Polk County", will begin at 7 p.m. in the school's Howe's Theatre, l, 4751 N CR 547, Davenport, FL 33837.

Polk State College pumps almost half-billion dollars into economy

Winter Haven, Florida -- A study shows Polk State College acts as an economic engine worth almost half a billion dollars to the local economy.

Most of the $481.8 million impact comes from the increased money earned by students and alumni because of their advanced education, the study found.

Economic Modeling Specialists, Intl. -- or EMSI -- is the firm behind the study, which was commissioned to look at the entire Florida College System, according to this announcement of the results released by Polk State:
