Lakeland, Florida-- Polk County Fire Rescue, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, City of Lakeland, Lakeland Lender Airport, and Polk County School Board will hold a Polk County Hurricane Awareness Tour on May 4 at Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland.

Polk County holds Hurricane Expo

Polk County, FL -- Thousands of residents participated in the Polk County Hurricane Expo held at the Orange Dome in Winter Haven Saturday.

Experts including 10 News meteorologist Chris Suchan spoke on the upcoming season, forecasting and concerns of the inland wind and tornado threat from tropical systems passing across Polk County.

Additionally, members of emergency services in the county were on hand along with a number of vendors to answer questions, pass out information or showcase products to buy.

Polk County, FL -- June is National Hurricane Preparedness Month and marks the beginning of hurricane season.

According to forecasters, the Atlantic basin is facing a busy hurricane season with an estimated 12 to 18 named storms this year including six to 10 that will become hurricanes.

Polk County, FL -- Cover the bases and prepare for hurricane season with family activities at the annual Polk County Hurricane Expo on Saturday, June 4.

Hurricane season begins June 1 and the expo offers the perfect opportunity for families to speak with area experts about products, services, weather and hurricane readiness. The FREE event will take place 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Orange Dome in Winter Haven, located at 210 Cypress Gardens Blvd. 

Those who can’t make it to the expo site can still participate – online!  Log onto one of the partnering webcast host sites to watch the presentations and submit questions and comments, engage in online polls, and share personal hurricane stories.  The webcast sites will open on Friday, June 3, with readiness information, poll questions, and a speaker itinerary.

Flying Tigers and Polk County team up for Emergency Preparedness Night

Polk County, FL -- The Lakeland Flying Tigers and Polk County Emergency Management have teamed up to host an Emergency Preparedness Night on Wednesday, June 1.

The event will when the gates to Joker Marchant Stadium open at 6 p.m. and will continue throughout the game as the Flying Tigers battle the Ft. Myers Miracle.

First pitch will cross home plate at 7 p.m.

For the eighth consecutive year, Minor League Baseball is partnering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps Program to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies including natural disasters and potential terrorist attacks.
